Oregonian Article: Inside Buckman Public House, Washington High School’s 300-seat restaurant

This weekend, Tucci of Lake Oswego owners Gregg Matteucci, David Regan and Suzanne Regan will open the long-awaited Buckman Public House, a nearly 300-seat “Oregon” restaurant with a large patio and bar.

The restaurant will take up the Northwest corner of the building and be helmed by Jeff Emerson (Tucci) and Ian Wilson (Fenrir). Marthas, an existing cafe and bar, sits nearby.

The menu will include house-made onion dip, clam chowder. lamb tartare, salads and traditional sides like baked beans and macaroni and cheese. Smoked pork shank with white beans, grilled trout with arugula and a flattop burger are among the entrees. Daily specials such as meatloaf, prime rib and whole fish will roll out, getting more extravagant as the weekend approaches.

As a nod to the building’s original incarnation, Washington High School, the restaurant will roll out a cafeteria-style pizza during the 4 to 6 p.m. happy hour.

Buckman Public House’s bar program will be overseen by bar manager John Paul Longenecker (Rum Club, Levant) and development director Beau Raymond, with Pete Maben (Vintage Cocktail Lounge) behind the bar. Expect everything from beer, wine and cocktails on tap to low-proof “suppressor” cocktails, creative non-alcoholic drinks, slushies and boozy soft serve. Late-night cocktails and brunch are in the works.
